Land Rover Repair: sluggish performance, diagnostic answers, lucky guess

Question
John i have a 2000 v8 disco the problem is at about 2200-2500 rpm the motor starts missing and becomes sluggish especialy going up hills .if you take it easy on the accelerator to 100ks its ok but when you need to overtake and you put your foot down it starts missing.i have a van i need to tow but cannot use it because of the above problem.the motor has done 30,000 ks since a complete rebuild .It has new plugs and good quality leads fitted.I fitted a slightly warmer camshaft and maybe this may be the problem.....can the ecu be remapped on the disco v8 ..who do you think the best person would be to go to....???????I love the car and its in good condition Regards Rob.

Answer
Since you have modified the motor the usual diagnostic answers might not apply.  What we would do at Robison Service is this:  We'd connect the T4 test system and take the vehicle onto the highway with one person monitoring the live data display and another driving.  When it started to break down we'd be able to see if it was rich, lean, had retarded timing, etc.  We'd probably be able to unravel the problem based on the test readings.  Anything else is really just a lucky guess.

As to remapping the ECU . . . I am not aware of anyone remapping Bosch ECUs.  There are sport chips for the older GEMS trucks, but not Bosch units.
