Land Rover Repair: series 3 misfire, haynes workshop manuals, plug gaps

Question
Hi,We have a series 3 and it misfires at about 35mph + as the pedal is pressed. I have checked plug gaps, and the silicone plug leads. What else should I do. As you can guess I am just starting on the Landy ownership trail eeek !!

Answer
There is nothing special about a Series III ignition.  If it misfires you look for bad points, bad condensor, mechanical wear in the distributor beyond the obvious issues of plugs, wires, cap rotor.

Then you look at the coil and its wiring.  Finally, there can be carburetor problems.

You might want to buy a book on care and tuning of vintage engines as the same techniques apply to most all 1970-era engine tuning.  Also I'd recommend one of the Motorbooks or Haynes workshop manuals.
