Land Rover Repair: LR3 Emergency Brake Light, emergency brake, running order

Question
Hi,

I am about to take delivery on a 2005 LR3 w/ 35k miles. The dealer I'm buying from has it at an LR dealership having some items repaired. I called about its status and the issue causing the hold up is the emergency brake light coming on and off. Obviously I can only go by what she told me over the phone so I don't have more details but they seemed perplexed. Any ideas? Thanks!

Answer
Hi Matt,

not to worry.  If the LR dealership has the vehicle and they are doing repairs, especially when another dealership is paying, the job should get done right.

Emergency brake light could be sensor related or cable adjustment.  I would be more concerned if the repairs were NOT being done by a LR dealer or LR mechanic.  Since you bought the LR3, the dealership you bought it from must make sure that the vehicle is 'sound' on delivery.

Before you take delivery, make sure everything is in proper running order.  Try out the emergency brake:  apply the brake; engage transmission; LR3 should not move.  When the brake is released, no light should appear otherwise.

Best of luck,

NB:  Make sure to have the ownership information updated with LR.  Contact the LR dealership after you take delivery and speak to the service department.  You can also ask for an update on service performed and if any outstanding recalls exist.
