Land Rover Repair: 2002 Land Rover Freelander, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I am having trouble figuring out how to fix the problem that my Freelander codes keep sending.  The first code that comes up is P0174 (system too lean Bank 2)which I understand is a Vaccum/Air leak code.  This is in conjunction with three other codes P0303, P0305, P0301  which are all cylinder misfire codes for cylinders 3,5,1 respectively.  The vechicle has been checked for PCV and other hose leaks, O2 sensor replaced, Mass air-flow sensor replaced.  The service engine soon lights also comes on and the codes appear within a minute or two after the vehicle is started.  The vehicle sputters while idleing and has poor acceleration.  After the vehicles warms up and the codes are cleared the vehicle runs better and the service engine light does not reappear until turned off and restarted later on, but if the vehicle is scanned the codes will come up still even though the service engine light does not.

I am totally baffled.  The dealer said the problem was the O2 sensor, but I had this replaced, the mass air flow, the variable speed motor, and all the hoses checked and the problem still exists.  The dealer was not much help at all.  I am now stuck and have no other suggestion, ideas, or people I can ask.  Can you help??

Thanks

Jeff

Answer
I've not run into this before but it sounds like you still have a leak.  I have heard of cracked manifolds on the freelanders, when it's running and up to temp, spray some carborator/choke cleaner around the engine (not directly on anything, just general area of the intake manifold) if it sputters and/or dies there is a leak somewhere sucking in the carb-cleaner.
