Land Rover Repair: 1998 Range Rover 4.0, land rover specialist, general mechanics

Question
In the middle of a 500 mile trip my wife and I  stopped for fuel.  After fueling I started the Range Rover and began to leave the fueling area, I went about 50 feet and all of a sudden my horn began honking, the windshield wipers began going back and forth, even the ones on the headlights, and the washer fluid was squirting on the headlights.  I turned the key off and it didn't stop.  I removed the relay for the wipers, and unplugged the horn.  It was weird, but we continued on our trip home.  About 15 miles down the road I heard a noise in the engine.  I stopped and looked under the hood, the starter motor was engaged, I turned off the key, but it still kept going.  I disconnected the battery and it stopped.  Every time I re-connected the battery it would turn the engine over (like it was running -- key in off position).  Finally I PRAYED.  When I re-connected the battery cable this time I left one of the positive cables off.  The engine started without the starter staying engaged.  We headed home again, but realized the battery was going down (the engine began to run rough).  I stopped and re-connected the other positive cable and made it home without a problem.  I was a mechanic and service manager for a Honda motorcycle dealership back in the 1970's and have a good handle on general mechanics, but this beyond me.  Please Help

Answer
All of those functions are controlled by the BECM computer.  I'd recommend finding a Land Rover specialist with he proper tools to talk to te BECM And see what's wrong.  It's also possible you hav a meltdown in the fuse box but my bet is the BECM.  You need a shop with Autologic or T4 to communicate with it and program it.  Don't try to service it without those tools as you will just end up with a disabled caar.
