Question
i have a 1990 range rover3.9 v8 it seems to use a lot of water (2-3 liters aday).it runs fine then temp gauge shoots up to just under red then after about five mins returns to normally it also has a lpg convertion any conection

Answer
Hi Andrew,

sounds like its either boiling the coolant off or you have a leak somewhere (possibly a headgasket leak?).

That much water loss has to go somewhere.  I don't believe it has anything to do with the lpg side.

You could try replacing the thermostat as this opens and closes a valve to help regulate the coolant temperature.  If the valve remains closed, the coolant will eventually overheat.

Have the radiator and coolant system pressure tested by a local radiator specialist.  This will determine if your rad needs replacement and if a headgasket leak is present.

If the rad is original, its quite possible that it needs to be replaced as it is not capable of cooling the fluid properly.

Best of luck,
