Land Rover Repair: several major alarm issues, land rover discovery, spider unit

Question
1999 land rover discovery series 1

I've done lots of studying about this, and cant seem to figure anything out. Here are my problems: the central locking and unlocking does not work, the remotes do not work, I put new batteries in both of them and tried the re-sync procedure as described in the owners manual, still nothing. these two are not a big problem, as in I could live without them.

the third problem is the worst: the truck will intermittently not start, I don't mean it just turns over I mean it does nothing. when I would turn the key to the on position (position 2) the hazard lights would flash and the horn would blow. I've pulled the horn fuse because it would also make a rapid pulsing sound from the horn, but it is not quite as loud as the regular alarm and stops when you open the door. these bursts would last around 10-15 seconds and start every 30 seconds or so and this would go on a couple minutes at a time.

I am sure that it is something in the alarm not the spider unit because the alarm goes off when I try to start the truck.

I can use the EKA to disarm it some times but sometimes it dosnt work.

I am getting very aggravated w/ this and no one can seem to figure anything out.

thanks for any help you may be able to give me.

Answer
If you are outside of North America you may be able to remove the alarm and get rid of the engine inhibit.  In the US market, you are stuck with it, and the alarm controller also runs the power door locks.  The T4 and Autologic systems can talk to the alarm.  You won't get very far without one of those tools, so my best advice is to find a workshop that has one, and also has the knowledge to use it.  Many new dealer techs for example do not really know the older systems like this.
