Land Rover Repair: A/C push button, air blows, relay switch

Question
I have a '97 LR Disco that I bought in April.  The A/C has been working just
fine in the front.  The rear A/C did not work and it turns out the rear A/C
push button on the front dash was not connected.  We connected that and
soon after the electrical cooling fans would intermittently stop working.
Apparently the relay switch was not coming on.  If I slightly moved the front
A/C push button, the relay would click back on.  Now that front push button
will not stay pushed in and the front air blows out hot air.  I bought a new
push button but can't figure out how to get the old one out.  I also bought a
new relay switch but haven't put it in yet.  My questions are:  Could it be that
I just need freon,  would that cause the A/C button not to stay in?  If that is
not it, are there any other reasons why the button will not stay in?  What
should I do first?
Thanks so much for any help you can give.

Answer
It sounds like there are problems with the switch panel, and it also sounds like the rear ac was disconnected because there were other problems.  I can't see the car so I can't help much with the rest of the diagnosis.  You will have to get the wiring handbook and trace those fan circuits and get to the bottom of it.

The button not staying in is a physical problem with the button, not a need for freon.  Or course, it may need freon too, but that's a separate matter.

Whenever you find a car where stuff has been disconnected it's a sign that the answers are not easy to find . . . if it were an easy problem whomever disconnected the switch would have fixed it, not unhooked it.
