lights flash (beam, indicators, coil light on dash, etc)when vehicle footbrake applied when in reverse. been told by john to check the batt. batt is ok, how do i check the alt and the load of the system(his other rsponse). just a quick guide, please. you guys are the nuts!!

I don't think you have a bad alternator.  The symptoms you describe almost certainly indicate bad grounds (earth connections).  The bad grounds prevent the electricity from travelling straight to the negative side of the battery, so it finds a different route.  This leads to all of the odd electrical malfunctions that you describe.  Clean all chassis and battery grounds and all power connections.  Apply di-electric grease after cleaning.
