Land Rover Repair: 2001 LR Discovery SEII, overheating issue, land rover discovery, head gaskets

Question
Hi,

I have a 2001 Land Rover Discovery SEII.  I've had the head gaskets replaced a few months ago.  Since then, I've had several overheating issues.  The most recent episode being a few weeks ago.  The truck heated up about 4 times within space of an hour and all the coolant spewed out though the reservoir hose at the bottom.  The coolant was full, but it seems to be burning off somewhere.  There's aren't any leaks on the ground, and no white smoke from exhaust.  Any suggestions?  I have about 115k miles on it, and these episodes seem to be happening around every 1000-1500 miles.  Oh to give a little background, when it initially overheated, the shop I took it to put some oatmeal type of stuff (I forget the name) inside to supposedly seal the gasket up temporarily until I can have the gaskets replaced, I'm not sure if this did any damage or not.  Any advise or suggestions would be helpful.  Both my mechanic and I are pretty stumped.

Thanks,

Mike

Answer
sounds like it may be a clogged radiator because of the stop-leak.  if not a poorly done head-job could be your problem.   the rover engines don't tolerate overheating well and your block may be toast, a leak in the gasket could be pressurizing the cooling system and blowing the hoses off.
