Land Rover Repair: 97 discovery problem, rear view mirror, auto mirror

Question
QUESTION: I have a 97 rover discovery, my problem started with the rear wiper stoped working, my husband changed the fuse and it workked untill the back door gets opened then it would quit again. Now my dash lights don't work. my auto mirrors quit. any ideas on whats going on with it ??

ANSWER: The problem with the wipers and the back door is most likely the door  switch.  This switch disableks the wipers when you open the rear door.  If it is does not work, the wiper would be inoperative.

The auto mirrors seldom work and you may need to replace your dash light bulbs.  I would need to know a bit more to offer any help with these.

QUESTION: we found that fuse 18 pops every time we replace it and turn on the ignition it is labled that it works the crusie control, mirrors and rear wiper any ideas why ?? Would the burned out bulb blow the fuse

Answer
Sorry, by auto mirror I assumed you meant the auto dimming interior rear view mirror, not the side view electric mirrors.  A failure of either door mirror could cause the fuse to blow, a blown bulb would not as there is no continuity to the bulb.

Diconnect the door mirrors, disconnect the harness from the rear wiper motor.  Replace the fuse, then reattach each mirror and the rear wiper one by one until you see which one blows the fuse.  It is most likely the rear wiper (I suppose you could start with this).  Replace whichever unit is faulty or leave it disconnected.
