Land Rover Repair: Land Lover Discovery Series 2 year 2002, land rover dealership, cape town south africa

Question
Hi Nigel,
My Land Rover (V8 Petrol Auto) has intermittent bad idling / running rough problems. They have changed the airflow regulator twice. They have checked the leads and the spark plugs. The garage is not a licencsed Land Rover dealership, but they sepecialise in, and only service, Land Rovers (Cape Town South Africa). They have the diagnostic equipment but cannot find the fault. It has been back to them three times.

This problem obviously makes the car chew petrol and the car loses power when going uphill or is put under load, or even when you drive it cautiously.

It just runs rough?

Appreciate your views.
Reg John.

Answer
Try the following:
1) Check the fuel pressure to make sure it is within the parameters.  2) Clean all sensors and connectors and add di-electirc grease.
3) Clean the BECM.
4) Clean all grounds as well.
5) These vehicles sometimes suffer sticking valves, so add a proprietary valve cleaning piston ring decarbonizing additive to the engine oil.  If not available, you can try 1/2 pint transmission fluid to the engine oil, but don't overfill.
6) Check exhuast back pressure to make sure the exhaust is not blocked.

If none of this works, get back to me

Add a good uel injector cleaner to the tank.
