Land Rover Repair: Air Mass Meter, coolant temperature sensor, proper voltage

Question
The '89 RR runs rich and about 8 MPH. I noticed the Mass Meter must not be
working because I can disconnect it and it makes no difference. The proper
voltage is on the brain end. Is the meter bad? How can I tell if it is for sure? I
have no extra meters to test it out that way.  Thank you.

Answer
It is normal for them to be able to run without the air mass meter.  It is more likely to be an ignition problem or the coolant temperature sensor.  Check the timing, the centrifugal advance, vacuum and fuel pressure.  Also, a faulty distributor rotor will cause it to blow black smoke, run like crap and only go 8 mph.
