Land Rover Repair: 2004 25k Disco II Radio, independent repair shops, ride in peace

Question
Hello. Stock radio won't turn off/no controls work, volume, disc select, on the head unit or steering column. Initially I thought this was related to anti-theft, but no code prompt, radio is just stuck on one station blaring. Removed fuse for speakers/amp so I could at least ride in peace, need my clock so did not remove radio fuse its still on. Factory warranty expired 7/27/08, hoping to avoid long trip to LR dealer and $75 copay for xtended warranty claim.

Answer
I am afraid it sounds like the radio has had its day.  They are very hard to remove and they cost about $800, so the $75 co-pay is a bargain.  I would also think up a long list of any additional repairs needed to get your moneys worth out of your co-pay.

By the way, you do not have to use the dealer for your Land Rover extended warranty.  They will pay independent repair shops.  I am not sure if they have to be ASE accredited, but I know we have dealt with many claims at our shop successfully.

Good luck!
