Land Rover Repair: Cant start engine, land rover defender, battery connections

Question
Hi I have a land rover defender. Don't know which series. I tried to start my car the other day but couln't. The battery and oil lamp lights are still onand there is this clicking sound that comes when I try to start the car up. The recovery car came to jump start the car but it couldn't. I thought it was the battery for the immobiliser but I bought a new battery still same results. Can you tell me what the problem is. Thank you

Answer
The clicking sound indicates bad starter or low battery.  It sounds like the starter to me. Check for bad grounds and also check battery connections, but it does sound like a bad starter.  You can hit the starter with a large metal bar and sometimes it will energize.  If it does, you have found the problem.  If it is too far gone it will not respons.
