Land Rover Repair: 2000 Disco II w/ DTC Po447, gas vapors, emission control systems

Hi, I was curious about information on this code Po447. this is the only code it is throwing. The code reader has Evap emissions system vent control circuit open. The vehicle runs and drives fine but I hate the light being on. I am mechanically inclined so I would like to troubleshoot this myself. I am fairly new to Land Rovers so I don't know where to start. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The first step would be to learn how evaporative emission control systems work.  You can do that online or in most modern auto service texts.  Evaporative emission controls the emission of gas vapors from the tank.

To diagnose the system in this car, you will need the service information.  You can buy print manuals online from Atlantic British or Rovers North, or you you can subscribe to LRs service site, www.landrovertechinfo.com

One problem you will face is that some tests require reading the live data from the computer.  We do that with the factory test system.  Few aftermarket scanners have this capability.  So you may get stuck.  In addition, we use a smoke machine to fill the system and watch for leaks.
