Land Rover Repair: gear shift, gear shaft, release lever

My gear shaft is locked in reverse. I was told it wasn't the transmission so what might be the problem. The car won't start since it's locked in reverse

Is the release lever on the shift-knob broken?  I've seen this once and the RR was stick in R.

There is a small screw in the front of the knob, remove that and the knob will pull off straight up.  push down on the rod in the middle and the lever should move.

If that's not it have a look at the linkages underneath, if they are ok, disconnect the cable and move the transmission lever manually into N or P.  make sure to block the wheels while you're underneath.
