Land Rover Repair: Immobiliser on, fault message, steel spring

Question
Hi my 4.6 HSE immobiliser has stopped the motor.Had converted to steel spring with an EAS override module fitted 2 years back. Then the EAS was removed from under the seat as thought as not working. This was followed, 3 weeks later by immobiliser being activated.Does the BECM talk to the EAS and when it cannot find it, it drains the battery or overloads the alternator resulting in not enough battery power? This then causes the immobliser to kick in? How best to resolve this problem. Thank you very much for your help, John

Answer
Hi John,

The BECM waits for an "all clear" signal from the EAS, this MAY cause the BECM to stay awake with the engine off, but I've not seen it before.

You can override the EAS FAULT message by putting a jumper from pin 1 to 25 and a second jumper from 7 to 18 on the EAS connector, leave the ECU unplugged and the wires installed permanently, this sends an "EAS MANUAL" signal to the BECM and it won't wait for the all clear signal.

For the imobilization you should be able to clear that with the key-fob, if not you will need a LR specific diagnostic tool to remove the lockout from the ECU.  Most independent LR specialists will have what is needed.
