Land Rover Repair: 97 Disco codes, obd ii scanner, emission control system

Question
The code reader tells me it's P0441 Evaporative Emissions Control System Incorrect Purge Flow. I apparently don't speak code reader and am having trouble figuring this out. Could tou translate that into something I might understand?

Answer
The evaporative emission control system collects vapors from the gas tank and burns them in the engine, instead of letting them escape into the air.

The purge valve's job is to purge the vapors from the canister where they are collected and stored.

Having explained all that, it's a complex system to test.  Therefore, most repair attempts at home will be little more than guess-and-replace.  There are quite a few parts that can cause that particular fault, and I suggest you let someone with proper equipment sort it out.

By "proper equipment," I mean an Autologic or T4 Land Rover test system.  Dealers and specialists will have that stuff.  A general repair shop with an OBD II scanner is not likely to get a good result on a problem like this.
