Land Rover Repair: 1999 Range Rover 4.0 - Head Gasket, head gasket, gasket

Question
It appears that the head gasket as you stated may need to be replaced.  How much on average is a job like that ?  Would it be cheaper to buy a rebuilt engine ?

Answer
Hi Ricardo,

can start at $2000 and go from there.  Rangie is always more expensive.   I sent you some independent LR shops not too far from Pasadena ...  I hope they can do the job.

A rebuilt Rangie engine would be double the amount of a headgasket job  PLUS you'd be inheriting the problems of that engine.  IF you know your own and trust it, keep it.  If you have other problems, maybe a rebuild is in order.

Go to www.car-part.com and check out the cost of a salvaged Rangie engine.  You'll find some excellent prices on that site and many yards are close to you too!

Best of luck,

JohnMc
