Land Rover Repair: Manifold Gasket, failure diagnosis, shortblock

QUESTION: We have taken our Disco2 to be treated for overheating to the dealer three
times!  They have ssaid it is fixed and now it overheated again so we had it
towed but now they say that we need a new manifold.  i am wondering if this
could not have been either prevented or discovered earlier?  They repaired hoses
and gaskets.  PLEASE HELP!!!  They say we now owe $6,000!

ANSWER: $6,000 is a lot more than a manifold gasket.  You should clarify the price, the job, or both.

QUESTION: To clarify it is the shortblock!  How can we be responsible for something we
have taken in three times for overheating and then they say it is warped from
overheating and it's our fault?

Answer
Sometimes one arrives at a shortblok failure diagnosis by eliminating the other possibilities.  I see that fairly often.  In addition, you may have damaged the engine by driving in an overheated state in the previous incident.

And as to 6,000 . . . often that job ends up closer to 8-9,000 so be prepared.
