Land Rover Repair: Freelander 02 Reg, 1.8 5 Door, land rover specialist, tail pipe

Question
When the car is cold, there is a lot of steam coming out of the exhaust when driving, No water just steam, This lasts for about 4-5 min until warmed up. Is this normal, Think it's running a little rich as the inside of the tail pipe is really black, I haven't noticed it is using water and the heating gets hot and the gauge is normal, Do you think its just me been over paranoid !!!

Answer
In winter it's normal for steam to come from the exhaust for 5-10 minutes.  And the black color at the tail pipe end is normal, too, on late model vehicles.

That said, if you still worry I'd advise you to find a qualified Land Rover specialist and have him take a look.
