Land Rover Repair: 2003 Discovery engine knocking noise, rocker shafts, discovery engine

Question
I bought my 2003 discovery about 2 months ago. It has 116k miles and it has a knocking noise which no one (even the dealer) knows how to fix. The dealer did say that there are no stored / misfired codes stored, so that was ok.The noise starts after the engine heats up and is very loud at idle. When I accelerate, the noise moves along with it, and the rep is faster with the speed. About 7 oil changes, 16 new lifters, and new rocker shafts and rods, later, the noise won't go away. the car runs fine, but the noise is very loud. I took it to the dealer and they 'performed a diagnosis' without even dismantling anything and charged me for 2 hrs of labor and still did not tell me anything.

Answer
Hi newbie DII owner,

welcome to LR service!!  This is what you can expect from LR service when they don't know what to do the fix a problem.  It gets worse...sometimes they swap parts until they 'think' they've solved the problem.

Perhaps I can locate an independent LR mechanic that can help you out.  Send me an email and let me know where you'd like to have your Disco repaired.  I'll check my sources and try to find a mechanic that may help.

My first thought was exhaust valves.
