Land Rover Repair: 98 disco woes and troubles, inhibitor switch, plastic plugs

Question
Hi John, thats a good scottish name you have there! Just bought a 98 disco LSE 4 liter for $1800 ,one or three problems you might say!
I don't as yet have a repair manual but will get one.
What do you think the causes for the following might be?
1.Plenty oil in engine but oil light is on
2.Drove it home, parked it,and now it won't shift into any gear,[ its an auto by the way ]
3.How do you get the interior door trim off,as the drivers door only opens from the inside. I took out all the screws and bolts I can see but there must be some clips holding the thing on from the inside, please don't say sledge hammer cause its really in very good condition as it is right this minuite ?!????
Thanks for any enlightenment in advance

Answer
Moran taing, Duncan.

Excellent price for that 98 Disco, by the way.

Buy the Haynes Repair manual (#3016 I believe). Good photos, excellent repair descriptions.

1.  Could be oil pump (rare but possible) or an oil pressure problem.

2.  Could be brake pedal switch that has failed.  Common problem.  Next would be park neutral inhibitor switch.

3.  Yes, there are plastic plugs that are part of the moulding and press into the metal frame. Careful here...if you are too rough you can pry out the plugs from the moulding.  Use a wide flat pry bar and CAREFULLY prise around the edge of the panel. Circle the entire panel several times until it finally pops off.  Take your time - you'll be glad you did!!!

As for sledge hammer, that's for later!!!

Best of luck with this Disco!
