Land Rover Repair: 98 disco sun/moonroofs wont close, moonroofs, roof assembly

Question
Hello, I have a 1998 Discovery LSE with dual moonroofs. They will open and close properly except for the important part, they won't close completely- they stay tilted and I hear a steady click-click-click. Since they both do this, I am thinking perhaps the controller box is messing up? I took the glass off and cleaned and lubed the tracks with white grease and no difference was noted (except it moves smoother now) :)  I know enough to ask an expert before I start taking apart the headliner! What think you?? Thanks for your time.  Glen

Answer
That was a common problem with the older roofs.  Land Rover sells rails or complete mechanicals to address this. You drop the headliner and pull the roof assembly, swap the parts on the bench and refit.  Two roofs is an 8-hour job for an experienced tech.

There is no lasting "fix" other than fitment of theupdated rails.
