Land Rover Repair: Discovery Spyder, spider unit, immobiliser alarm

I have just dismantled the dash on my 96 300tdi Discovery to fit a bypass loom to the spyder to find it not in the place behind the heater controls.
Do Land rover fit it anywhere else, the car has air con and was exported to Japan before being retuned to the uk.

Hi Sean,

according to the RAVE CD, not all Disco I's have the spider.

Other 96 DI owners have also reported that the spider is missing.

I have no knowledge of the spider being located anywhere else.  It should be located:

"The spider unit is a small black box of relays, controlled by the immobiliser & alarm, mounted on a panel just in front of (toward the front of the vehicle) and below the radiocassette slot"
