Land Rover Repair: 01 Freelander ticking engine - recall?, window winders, butterfly valve

Question
I recently bought an automatic 2001 Model Freelander. I have been told that a noisy ticking in the inlet manifold is caused by a broken, plastic, air flow butterfly. I was also told this problem was the subject of a factory recall to replace the butterfly but I can find no record of this to verify - my local agent is not particularly helpful. Also, I have a problem with four (4) window winders, the motors sound like they are trying but either wont open or wont close when opened. Can you offer any advice please, apart from 'sell it'!

Thank you

Answer
Hi David,

Here is a website that has TSB's for Freelanders.  You'll find some bulletins concerning engine noise and window troubles - problem description and work required to resolve.

http://www.myfreelander.com/overview.htm

Engine noise could be tappets, window problem could be regulator switch.

I took a long look and I could not find a recall on the butterfly valve for any Freelander - NHTSA or Transport Canada has no recalls for 2001.  IF you are in another country, the results may differ.

You can perform this same search:

Best of luck,
