Land Rover Repair: 1998 discovery engine making ticking sound, wake forest nc, land rover dealership

Question
I have a 1998 discover.  The engine has been making a ticking sound for the last two months.  It seems to be getting worst.  it was only when you were idling but now it seems to also be when you drive.
I have always taken it to the land rover dealership in cary, nc but they seem to be high and only car about trying to sell you a new car
The car has over 188K miles on it - hoping to make at least 200K.
I live in durham, nc.  is there another repair shop that you know of closer?  I am afraid that the engine will blow or something if I keep driving it.
I'm thinking maybe a value job?

Answer
Hi Michael,

here are a three I know of in your area:

Rover Club House - contact: Luke
402-A Hardee St.
Durham, NC 27703
919-682-5063
Note:  independent shop, good remarks from LR owners; call for appointments

Braddy's British Motor Works - Contact: Linny Braddy
1420 Wall Road
Wake Forest, NC 27587
919-554-6999

Note:  another good independent shop. You can send this fellow an email at english_motors@yahoo.com. "I do it all at a fraction of the cost".  call and get an estimate.

Flying Circus English Cars
2308 East Pettigrew St
Durham NC 27703
(919) 596 4250

Note: same rates as dealer.  Has a good reputation with some LR owners.

Give each a call and ask them what they think it could be.  Sounds like you may have carbon deposit problems that require a valve job - a common problem for your disco.  Exhaust valves stick and can rob you of power.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
