Land Rover Repair: 97 Disco Ran out of gas, now wont start, injector pipes, fuel injection pump

Question
My 97 discovery unfortunately ran out of gas in my driveway and after refilling, it will not start.  I checked to see if fuel is getting to the fuel rail and it does not appear so.  I pulled the fuel line off at the engine compartment and there's no fuel getting there.  I know the fuel filter is probably the culprit but I'm having a hard time getting it off due to corrosion (too many New Jersey winters).  My question is, is there a repriming process on these that I need to do when these things run out of gas?  Is there anythin I can do or check that doesn't involve getting the filter off that might correct the problem?  Ultimately I may have to tackle the filter but I want to try everything else first.

thanks in advance for any advise!!!

Answer
Hi first question is is it the diesel version in the uk gas is a little confusing. Either way no problem give me details on the engine and I will answer. I will answer the diesel version as from the symtom thats what it sounds like. First locate the fuel lift pump under the FIP (fuel injection pump) and loosen the bleed point on the low pressure side located on FIP. Pump until clean fuel comes out with no air. If the pump feels like it is off load it may be due to the location of the cam turn engine over for a second and try again. Once you have clean fuel tighten bleed point and loosen three injector pipes (just loose not remove)? Turn engine until it starts or fires to start stop and tighten injectors. The engine should start normaly after this. Be careful when bleeding high pressure side (injectors) as fuel will spray out.

Good luck David

Ps its always a good idea to change filters if unsure on petrol but more so on diesel.
