Land Rover Repair: Disco I Body, land rover discovery, haynes repair manual

Question
This may a be a goofy question, but are there any modifications you can do to the exterior of the disco I so it looks like the disco II? And is there any good books for the Disco I

Answer
Hi George,

yes there are some mods you can do.  You can change the lettering on your hood to match that found on the series II.  You could probably add side mouldings to your wheel wells, if you don't have them.  Larger tires could be installed I suppose.  Replace the tail door hinges (I did this because the series II hinges are better designed). Different exterior paint.

IMO:  why would you?  Embrace the difference and unique quality of your series I.  BTW, the series II Disco's have so many more problems than our older Disco's.  I am proud of my series I and do my best to keep it well maintained.  I'm sure you are too.  What I would encourage is that you enhance your Disco with mods that complement its unique series.  Tail light bush bars, hella fog lamps, roof cage, rear ladder, rhino tow bar and winch.  Now that's a series I that will make the newer Series green with envy.

Yes, contact Haynes Publishing in Tenessee and order a Haynes repair manual for the series I Land Rover Discovery (#3016).  Its a hardcopy book and applies from '94 to '98 (even the 99 Series I).  Cost:  about $35USD
