Land Rover Repair: Freelander engine malfunction, solenoid valves, engine malfunction

I have a 2lt year 2000 TD4 ES  Diesel Freelander which had problems with the tank pump but is now replaced but engine malfunction light is still on garage tested the computer and it states a code P1612 light will not reset any idease

Hi Phil,

the only reference I have to P1612 is for LR Disco's:

P1612(2)* Solenoid valves power supply relay, sticking closed or open circuit.  Limp home mode in low and high ranges. Shift pressure to maximum, harsh gear shifts/
engagement.  Don't think this applies to your Freelander.

Could it be ignition switch?  I vaguely remember a anti-theft malfunction associated with this code.

That's about all I can think of.
