Land Rover Repair: Oil in Radiator defender 90 tdi, cylinder compression, classic symptom

Question
QUESTION: I have a diesel 90 tdi Land Rover and I observed a lot of oil(engine oil)in the radiator water. Grateful for you advice on the possible cause and solution to the problem.
Thank You in anticipation for your help

ANSWER: Hi Karamchand,

oil mixed with coolant is classic symptom of the headgasket blown.  Repair is about $2000 USD.

Don't let it run for too long as it may cause more damage.

QUESTION: John, I have checked the headgasket and water jacket and they are intact. Could you advice further please.

Answer
Hi Karamchand,

If ONLY the coolant is contaminated, AND enging gaskets are ALL ok, I would suspect the radiator.  You could perform a compression test on the radiator.  Most local rad shops can do this test for you.

Even IF the oil is not contaminated, I would perform a cylinder compression test to determine if a crack is present or gasket leak (hidden vice).

Best of luck,
