Land Rover Repair: 96 Disco with major problems, coolant tank, head gasket

Question
Hi,

I've had a 96 Discovery for about 8 months now. All I have to say is wow. I've had many problems already. First the power steering gear box broke..got that fixed. Second, the passenger side window fell..I found out the problem and fixed it..in 2 days in it fell again. Then my oil kept dripping...found out what happened and fixed it. Now the last thing i fixed was my coolant tank but the problem is that the water keeps leaking out of some little hole where a cap just blew off I guess..its where the radiator is. Everyday I've had to put water so it won't over heat..but today it was a different story. The car over heated so what I did is I just parked it in my garage for about 3 hours and put coolant/antifreeze. I followed the instructions like it said and now whenever i turn on the car its almost as if we were in the movie "the fog". all this leads to my question..what is it now?

Answer
If the fog comes from the tail pipe, as I think you're saying, you have an internal failure in the engine.  Either a failed head gasket or a failed engine block.

There are two articles on my company website about that - overheating and liner repair.  Look at www.robisonservice.com > service > land rover > articles

I'm sorry to say you could be looking at a major repair, possibly a new engine.
