Land Rover Repair: Disco starter location?, left hand side, heat shield

can you tell me where the starter on a 96 Disco is located? and is there anything online that shows where its at?

Hi Bruce,

the starter is on the left hand side of your vehicle (as you are facing towards your engine and in front of Disco).  It should be covered by a heat shield that obscures its visibility.  The shield is held in place by a bolt and an open C-like clamp.  Once the shield is removed, the starter is clearly visible.  I call this the knuckle busting location.

It's located in a rather difficult spot to service and remove, so you'll need a long extension (about 30") to remove the bolts holding it in place.
