Land Rover Repair: 97 3.9 petrol - no start ; some clicking noise, starter solenoid, rotary arm

Help, My 1997 3.9v8 petrol discovery has packed up..the AA said it was the coil and rotary arm...I have changed these and a new battery...still no life in it at all..when i turn the ignition key i hear a slight clicking noise from either under the cntre consol or behind the radio..im not to sure which....thanks

Hi Phil,

sounds more like a starter solenoid problem.  Could also be the main HT lead to the starter solenoid - I had to replace mine as it was soaked in oil, grit and dirt, resulting in lower amps to solenoid.  Could be the reason why I had to also replace the solenoid.  At first I thought it was just the solenoid but after installing the replacement, I still had the same problem.  I then noted the state of the HT lead and decided to replace it...started up like a charm.
