QuestionKia ora John, I have what my papers say at least is a 1996 ES Land Rover Discovery. Iwent to Britsh Motor Imports and they inform me that it is in fact a 1997 VA, they deduced this by my vin number SALLJGMM7VA709803. I have re read all my papers and it says manufacturing date 1996 but compliance plate date is 1997, so I guess my question is what is my disco is it a VA or an ES, it has a 3.9 V8? When I ask for prices on parts I don't know what i'm asking for , or doesn't it matter?

I too have a difference between the manufactured date and the vehicle year. My '95 Disco was manufactured in April of '94 but not shipped/arrived until 1995.
If your LR dealership says its a 1997, then thats what it is. Look at the license registration for more information. In our country, the importing dealership verifies the make, model and year.
It's possible that it has a 3.9 engine. Look under the hood and on the drivers door for information to clarify this. LR attached all this information on the date and time of manufacturing.
I do not know if someone has made any customized changes to your vehicle, so you will have to rely upon the local LR dealership and the attached vehicle data specs found on your vehicle.
