Land Rover Repair: Cylinder 6 misfire, valve job, distributor cap

Hi John,

I have a cylinder 6 misfire code and I have replace the plugs and the wires and I still get it.  The car gets really sluggish going up hill ESPECIALLY when I am hitting 2K RPM.  What do you recommend at this point.  I have lost faith in my local LR dealer and will probably do the work myself from this point on.

Hi Dan,

not sure what model you have:

If you have a DII, it could be a coilpack problem.  If your Disco is older, like mine, it could be the distributor cap.

If you could swap out the coilpack or distributor cap, you'd know soon enough.  I've seen this on my vehicles before.

Another possible cause, is the sticking exhaust valve problem common to Disco's.  Valve job is the only cure to this problem - expect about $2500 for this one.
