Land Rover Repair: head gasket replacement, head gasket replacement, coolant leak

Question
I have a 01 Disco II that has developed a coolant leak from the rear of the right head.  I live in a small desert town far far away from any LR dealer and the local mechs do not want to attempt a repair on it.  Looking at the motor, it looks fairly straight forward, would appreciate any advice or tips you may be able to offer.  Thanks

Answer
While straightforward, head gasket replacement is a big job.  It's two days of labor.

If you do it, I suggest doing a valve job, surfacing the heads, and be sure to replace the stretch bolts that secure the heads - they are one time use.

Also, check Land Rover's official site www.landrovertechinfo.com If you are serious about doing this a day's access would be money well spent
