Land Rover Repair: 2002 Discovery II Starting to Leak, fluid leak, transmission replacement

Question
I've owned a 2001 Disco II since new.  Current mileage is only 51,000.  I've taken to dealer for service every six months and never had problems.  On my last visit though, dealer indicated the valve cover gaskets are leaking - $675 to replace.  Then, a few weeks ago, I noticed red fluid dripping slightly out of the bottom of the transmission.  Are these problems worth fixing and how many more problems can I expect due to the age of the car, despite the low mileage?

Answer
If I understand you correctly, you are asking if a 2001 Land Rover merits a $675 repair??  Of course it does.

Check the red fluid leak, as there is no dipstick, and if it gets too low you'll go from a few hundred dollar repair to a $3,000 transmission replacement.

As to other problems, there are quite a few articles on that on my web site, www.robisonservice.com > service > rover > advice
