Land Rover Repair: will not pass state inspection, land rover discovery, land rover discovery ii

Question
Good afternoon Dennis

I have a 2000 land rover discovery II which has never given me a problem. About 3 weeks ago while on vacation the service engine light came on, however no obvious problems and I decided to unplug the battery to allow the computer to reset. The check engine light never turned back on but when I went to have the state inspection renewed a week later the vehicle would not pass due to no information on the computer. The tech was very friendly and advised me to drive the truck for about 100 miles and the computer will then have information stored in it. Well I have driven the truck for over 400 miles and once again it failed due to no information on the onboard computer. What are your thoughts on a possible solution? Should I have done something different on the way the computer should be reset? If so what are my alternatives.

Thanks

Answer
Disconnecting the battery shouldn't have cleared the codes from the ECU, the dash light may go out, but the code should have been stored for the next time it's read.  I'm not sure about the "no information", maybe their diagnostic computer can't read the LR info, have you been to them before?
