Land Rover Repair: overheating, blown head gasket, land rover discovery

Question
my 1995 land rover discovery is running hot. The temp. gauge stays between hot and cold. After driving about an hour,I dripped water on the water pump housing and the water sizzled. Is the pump not working or the thermostat?

Answer
Well, it could be either.  It could also be a clogged radiator or even a blown head gasket.  And finally, it might not be overheated at all.  Get an infared thermometer and check.  Look on my web site, www.robisonservice.com under service > rover > articles for the article on overheating.  That will tell you much more than I could write here.
