Land Rover Repair: 1999 range rover transmission problems, torque converter, transmission controller

Question
I am wirting this follow up question due to the fact that i have now taken my range rover to the dealership and they told me that the transmission has zero codes and they dont know what is wrong with it. the best they can do is replace the transmission with an OEM one but that is extremly expensive. i have recently cleaned all the wire connections to the tranny with dielectric grease and still nothing. it works in all aspects except high range D-3-2-1 it feels as if its just stuck in one gear ... ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

-----Question-----
Hello, i have a 1999 range rover 4.0 SE, i recently replaced the trasmission AND THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY in it due to the fact that it was stuck in ,"limpmode" itis stuck in what feels like 2nd or maybe 3rd gear in high range, my low range works fine Park THROUGH 1 and my reverse works fine in high range, but the high range D-3-2-1 Is not functional, it has little if no torque, it will reach a top speed of about 50 in this condition, but it take about 10mins to get there.ive been told this is reffered to as LIMP-MODE, BUT DONT know where to start repairing at, ECU'S are expensive and ive already paid for a transmission and torque converter PLEASE HELP!

You have already expended a great deal of money guessing.  I strongly suggest you find a dealer or an independent shop with Autologic or T4 who can actually diagnose the system.

There is no way for an owner-mechanic to find out what the transmission controller is thinking

Answer
I'm sorry but there is nothing I can suggest you can do from home.  With what you've told me the best suggestion might be to find another shop that is willing to put in a bit more care in their diagnosis.  "Replace everything" is the easy way out, but it sounds like they are just guessing.
