Land Rover Repair: 98 Disco loss of power on uphills, air filter oil, valve job

Question
I have a Disco 98 and change the  packing from the engine, then the car ran good on freeway, but i feel some diferent  at the dicovery when the way is up the hill, feel like lost  force and hear some noise from the engine, the otor has 99000 miles so i think shoukld have good power. What could be the problem?

Answer
Hi Jorge,

packing change - do you mean spark plugs and wires?

have your engine cylinder's pressure tested.  Could be sticking exhaust valves - a indication of this is loss of power on uphills.  Valve job is the only solution.

Examine serpentine belt - is it old and worn?  Air filter, oil and filter changes can help too.

It's possible that your engine has the sticking exhaust valve problem.  It is a common problem for Disco's.

Best of luck,
