Land Rover Repair: Electrical Trouble On 2004 Range Rover, auto electrician, cdchanger

Question
I notice at night that the lights on my dash and interior seem to dim in and out(also any interior lights that are on including the navigation screen). This in result seems to make the cdchanger cut off then come back on. My vehicle does not crank successfully the first time on some occasions and the dash displays messages and when restarted they magically disappear. What sort of problems am I possibly facing?

Answer
Hi Ulysses,

sounds like an electrical short.  Whatever it is, it's slowly draining your battery overnight and maybe that's why you notice the extra cranking when starting your Rangie the next morning.

You can try localizing this problem by removing a fuse the night before.

For example, IF you suspect the CD Changer, remove the fuse for the changer the night before.  IF you have NO difficulty starting the engine the next day, you've found the component that's causing the battery drain.

HOWEVER, if you remove the fuse for the CD Changer the night before AND you have trouble starting the engine the next morning, chances are the CD Changer is NOT the cause of the battery drain.

IN this case, move on to another component and perform the fuse test another night.

It could be a corroded wire or harness, a connector that's come loose, a bulb that is burnt out or something like that.  It's also possible that a security sensor has a fault and that's why you notice this when you park the Rangie for the evening.

I think the above mentioned procedure is what any auto electrician would do to find this fault.  If it seems too long and difficult for you, you can always find a local auto electrician and have them do it for you.  Then there's always the LR dealership and their experienced staff.

In your case, are you still under warranty?  IF so...let LR worry about this.

Best of luck,
