Land Rover Repair: 97 discover brake lights and no start, brake light switch, light bulbs

Question
A two days someone stop me on the road to tell me that my brake lights were out in the back of my car.  I went to the local parts store and purchase two bulbs.  I pull out the bulb on the back drivers side and it look good.  I pulled out the bulb on the other side and it look black and clouded inside.  I then put back in place the back panels and when over to start up the car.  To my surprise the car would not start.  Before I change the bulbs the car ran very, very good.  At first I thought it just turn over like it was out of gas because I could hear the starter running very strong but there was a 1/2 a tank.  I never thought I would need to go to a dealership to replace two brake light bulbs.  John have you ever heard of a problem like this.

Answer
Hi Mike and Sequoya,

yes...I had something like this with the Disco.  Bulb holder shorted out and caused trouble for my brake light switch.  Replaced the bulb, bulbholder and finally the brake switch.  In that order.

Corroded wires is usually the cause.

Best of luck,
