Land Rover Repair: 2002 Freelander starting problems, starter problem, starter relay

Question
A few weeks ago I bought a used, certified-by-the-dealer 2002 Freelander with 40,000 miles.  I read in advance about all the various problems, but I love the vehicle and it's been great.  One big issue, though: Twice I've tried to start it but nothing has happened.  All of the electrical and various sounds were fine, and the engine didn't grind or click.  Just silence.  Then, after repeated tries for about 10 minutes, it eventually did start and then ran fine.  Is this a starter problem or a sign of something more severe?  Thanks so much for the help, and I'd appreciate knowing if this has happened to others.

Answer
It could be a problem with the starter, or a problem with the starter relay, neutral switch, igintion switch or wiring.

It would also be a problem with the security system, as the alarm system can prevent the vehicle from cranking.

You will have to have a service technician catch it in teh act to diagnose it effectively.  Intermittent no crank situations like this can be tough to resolve
