Land Rover Repair: freelander electrical short, low pitch, fuse box

Question
occasionally when I turn the ignition the dash lights come on there is a single clic sound and a low pitch buzz while the key is turned but nothing else no sound of starter motor nothing. I can repeat ten, fifteen or even twenty times with the same response and then suddenly it will start as normal, i took to the garage and the ignition was replaced but still getting same problem, any ideas

Answer
Hi Andy,

a definite short, probably on the solenoid main wire. Strange that the garage did not test this before replacing ignition OR after ignition.  That's where I start looking.  Have the garage bypass the ignition to start the engine.  If it goes easy, then you have a short somewhere between the solenoid and ignition switch.  Fuse box should then be tested.

Best of luck,
