Land Rover Repair: Service Engine Light comes on then off, obd ii scan tool, engine management computer

Hi,
My 2000 Discovery II service engine light comes on and then off within a week time.  It came on after I filled up with gas and then when I got to a half tank, went off.  It did this 2 weeks in a row.  Could it be related (to gas intake) or just weird, like all the problems with this vehicle, I still love it even though... (crazy)

Erika, the fact that the light is one some days and off others means the problem it's signalling is not very serious.

The light is on because your engine management computer has detected some kind of problem.  You'll have to have a shop with an OBD II scan tool plug into the Rover to see exactly what the problem is.

I would not get very worried about it.  FWIW, if you have a serious problem the SERVICE ENGINE light will be constantly flashing.  If that happens, seek service right away.  A light that's on one day and off another is the lowest level of alert.
