Land Rover Repair: Blinking Odometer in 2000 Disco II, odometer reading, battery failure

Question
Hello,
I recently had the alternator replaced on my Rover, I drove the Rover for the first time today since I got it back from the shop and the odometer blinks continually. I have looked throught the owner's manual forward and backwards, and find nothing. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Answer
It sounds to me like a power surge may have damaged the instrument cluster, and caused it to lose synchronization with the body computer, which also stores the odometer reading.  You may need a new cluster.

This is a job for a dealer or a very skilled specialist with dealer-level knowledge and equipment because they may have to program mileage into a new cluster for you.

In the future, be careful when doing electrical work - always shut the car off, wait 30 seconds, then disconnect the battery.  Failure to wait, and working on live circuits can cause troubles like you describe
