Land Rover Repair: Freelander TD4 electrical problems; hard starts, diesel pump, glow plugs

Question
I own a 2003 freelander TD4, that sometimes does not start espacialy after it was driver a couple og KM's, The engine is turning and it sounds like it want's to start but it doesn't, when it doe this we have traced that the diesel pump has no power the relay's does no kick in and before you can go further it starts, sometimes it helps when you diconect the battery and leave it for a couple of min. My local dealer had it for 3 day'swithout resolving the problem, please help otherwise this will be my last Land Rover.

Answer
Hi Tommie,

Strange that a LR dealer cannot find the trouble - if they are really looking.

Difficult starts for a diesel engine are usually associated with cold weather, fuel cut-off (shut-off)solenoid, air in the fuel, sedimenter filter fouled, faulty injectors, glow plugs, timing, could even be (rare) your ECM...

I wish I knew more about Freelander TD4's.

As for this being your last LR...if your LR dealer can't find the problem after 3 days in the shop, I wouldn't blame you for not buying another.

Best of luck,

JohnMc
